The installation of Acoustic Outdoor Light Studio is an investigation of architecture and construction materials as musical instruments. The site of the installation is Tangenten Cultural House during the “Kulturisten Scene og Kunstfestival 2017” art festival.
The installation consists of seven translucent building elements and light sources. The translucent building elements are placed in two rows with a distance of approximately 60 cm to create a resonance space between the plates. In this space, an architectural instrument is created to play.
There were three musical performances where everyone used the installation as the main instrument. The opening performance was by composer Bente Leiknes Thorsen. The second day was the musician Kjetil Husebø with electronic processing and the third day the Oslo soloist Domkor Merete Holme on the song and the architect Gisle Nataas on percussion and electronic processing.
The installation was opened by the director of culture, Ellen Knutsen, during the official opening of the festival on Friday 22/09 at the Cultural House Tangenten with 300 audiences present. The installation is a collaboration between the architect Gisle Nataas, the architect Mats Odin Rustøy, the composer Bente Leiknes Thorsen, the musician Kjetil Husebø, the soloist Merete Holme and the photographer Haakon Michael Harriss.
